Why Konza, and why now

Konza Technopolis is the government's flagship smart city: 5,000 acres on Mombasa Road, about 60 km south of Nairobi. It stopped being a drawing a while ago. The National Data Centre already runs there. In May 2026, the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST) received its university charter and is preparing its first intake of postgraduate students on the Konza campus.
